At Diagnostic Imaging Centre, we’re with you every step of the way. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, every second becomes precious. Every test, every scan, and every decision made carries weight. At Diagnostic Imaging Centre, we understand that behind every scan is a worried parent, a brave little fighter, and a family hoping for answers.
One of the most important tools we use in the fight against childhood cancer is the CT scan — a powerful imaging technique that allows doctors to:
(a) Detect tumors early
(b) Monitor how treatment is progressing
(c) Plan the most effective care
Why CT Brain Scans Matter for Children
Among the various types of CT scans we offer, the Brain CT scan is one of the most common and essential in pediatric oncology.
If your child has been experiencing persistent headaches, seizures, or changes in behavior or coordination, a CT Brain scan can provide crucial insights. It helps to:
(a) Detect brain tumors early
(b) Guide personalized treatment plans
(c) Monitor the effectiveness of therapy over time
The faster we act, the more options doctors have to help — and the better the outlook for your child.
What to Expect: The CT Scan Journey, Step by Step
We know that medical procedures can feel intimidating — especially when it involves your child. That’s why our team is dedicated to making the CT scan experience smooth, compassionate, and stress-free.
1. Appointment & Preparation
You’ll begin by booking your child’s appointment. Depending on the case, we’ll guide you on how to prepare. This may include:
(a) Avoiding food and drink for a few hours (if a contrast dye is required)
(b) Dressing your child in comfortable, loose-fitting clothes
(c) Removing metal accessories such as hairpins or jewelry
2. Arrival & Check-In
Upon arrival, our warm and friendly staff will welcome you and your child. A qualified radiographer will review your child’s medical history and explain the scan in child-friendly language to ease any fears.
3. Positioning for the Scan
Your child will be gently positioned on a cushioned CT scan table. To keep them still and ensure clear images:
(a) A soft headrest may be used
(b) Straps might be gently placed for support
(c) In some cases, sedation is offered (especially for younger children who may struggle to remain still)
4. The CT Scan Process
(a) The scan itself is fast, non-invasive, and usually completed within 5–10 minutes
(b) The scanner moves around your child’s head, capturing detailed X-ray imagesIf needed, a contrast dye is injected to highlight specific areas of the brain
(c) The procedure is painless and we’ll talk your child through each step
5. Review & Results
After the scan, a specialist radiologist will carefully analyze the images. The results are then shared with your child’s doctor to inform the next steps in the treatment journey. We’ll ensure you’re kept informed and supported throughout.
